the rookies are free to play through mistakes and learn rather than worry about getting benched

It would of been nice to see this for Ty Rattie

Rattie can't make the lineup in Carolina, the team with one of the weakest forward groups in the league. Even under Yeo, he'd be below Yakupov on the depth chart and not playing here.

Are the blues just holding Yak out to decrease his value and hope Las Vegas wont want him?

What do you guys think will be a realistic next contract for Yak?

yeah i know i wish he could get in the lineup and show something. I think he needs to work on not making so many moves it seems like he makes 1 to many moves.

I would say no more than $2 MIL on a couple year contract so he can try and prove his worth

Rattie is not an NHL player. He is an AHL/tweener.

Never thought he would be an NHL player, and wished we would have traded him a couple of years ago when he had some value.

Oh well.

When i watch him play he has skill and makes some good plays but he seems to be rushed a lot of the time and puts his teammates in bad situations, essentially lacking in awareness.

If they resign him it has to be something like mps' contract

It would be interesting but I like MPS and Yakupov more. And I had always thought MPS could be good but like with Jaskin Hitch was too quick to erode their confidence.

You'd think you would get more patient with age...

His awareness has been off but I think a lot of that had to do with Hitch. Otherwise he seems to not understand the routes on a forecheck. But otherwise, if you could get him to relax more he will be good. A little coaching, a little more strength and he could be quite a steal.

Funny. I commented about his forechecking and how he wouldn't necessarily take a good angle nor always support the other forechecker well. Forechecking is a team thing. You have to help guide the puck and defend space together for a forecheck to be truly effective. It's all about pressures, passing lanes and options imho

Not exactly pretty but i'm glad they pulled it off. Canucks were tired at the end and couldn't even really pressure with the goalie off. Markstrom tends to cheat off the post, lets remember that if we see him again this year.

Youngsters out real late in this game. Good that Yeo is showing confidence in them instead of the same 2 lines like we had for years with Hitch. Good to see a new voice and Yeo actually talking to players on the bench throughout the game and congratulating them(Tarasenko's pp goal i think)

Best start for a Blues coach ever? Did I hear that right?

Not bad, considering all 4 of the coaches with most wins in NHL history were Blues coaches.

He's confident right now and his playing the puck was preventing Vancouver from getting in and gaining possession in the offensive zone.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's being coached to be aggressive and play the puck by the best that's ever been at it.

Sorry for hijacking a question that wasn't addressed to me.

As for the somewhat ugly game - this is a game in years past that would be an automatic loss with the built in excuse 'first home game after a long road trip we just didn't have our legs tonight'.

So even this is an upgrade.

And Jay Bouwmeester is a piece of poo.

I didn't check, but i'm certain he should be given the second assist on Vancouver's first goal.

I was a little concerned with the game last night. Blues coming back off a 5 game road trip and the Canucks ending their long road trip smelled like a bad game for the blues but they pulled it out in the end.

Two more games and than a long break.

How in the world did 4 officials not see Allens mask come off. 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Utterly ridiculous that they didn't blow the play dead

Keep in mind the Canucks were utterly desparate and playing for their play off lives. The Blues weathered the storm. But man there were about eight times off the top pf my head they tried to make the extra pass or pretty play instead of taking what they had.
